A SINGER/songwriter who admits that when he ‘escaped’ from London to live in this area he was looking for a new challenge – the setting up of a community choir and they held their first meeting last week.

It was at the Iveagh Conservative Club in Leigh Road.

Lawrence Hiller explained: “I am a singer/writer who recently moved (escaped) from London to live in the area.

“I’ve always wanted to start up a community choir, a place to not only come and sing but to meet likeminded people and generally have fun.

“I thought my relocation would be a perfect excuse.

After a chance meeting and chat with former homeless man Andi, a local man and now my co-conspirator, a choir was born.

“It’s going to be loads of fun, they’ll be a piano, music and much more. The choir will be open to all ages.”
